solar dyeing // avocado skins : results
before leaving on summer vacations mid-July, I had tried solar dyeing with avocado skins. I had mordanted fabrics (as usual, linen, silk, silk yarn, cotton crochet lace, vintage+handmade cotton crochet mini doily) with alum. We had eaten those avocadoes a good couple days before I could actually mordant the fabrics, so the skins were not as fresh as new.I must admitt, I was a bit in a hurry, it was the day before we left (for two weeks), and I could (well, should) have left them there for longer. Even the photos don't do justice. And next time that I'll try to dye with them, I'll hot dye, and will use fresh(er) skins. The result is a (very) light peachy tone, with hints of yellow. It's prettier & a bit darker in person, but oh well.
stay tuned for new experiments, I've been dyeing three times these days. Two are almost ready to show, one last will have to wait a little bit more. (yes, that's a solar dyeing)
thanks for stopping by & reading !
